Biking During COVID-19

Wondering when things will go back to normal? We are as well. Every July, we take the T+S staff for a few days and head over to Jackson Hole to do some gnarly mountain biking. This year there was a bit of an issue. With COVID-19 being more prevalent than ever, we almost called it off this year. After extensive research and contacting locals, we decided to hit the road and drove about 500 miles up to one of our favorite mountain biking locations.

Starting off the trip with some Friday Night Bikes is a fan favorite. It doesn't get better than lift rides with your buddies and a $10 lift pass at Jackson Hole Resort. But extra precautions needed to be taken. Once you enter the resort a face-mask is required. Luckily we came prepared with masks, hand sanitizer, and other disinfectants in-order to ensure our safety as well as those around us. Once we purchased our lift pass, everything surprisingly felt normal. The usual stoke and good times flowed like natural. After some vigorous berm shralp-ing and sending, we decide to call it a night and headed down to the resort to grab some diner.

The day after, we decided to ride some other favorite trails in the area. We drove up to Teton Pass to hit Fuzzy Bunny, Lithium, Parrell, and Jimmy's Mom. Mountain biking these trails never gets easy, but man is it fun. Surprisingly everyone came out un-scratched, not even a flat tire. We headed back over to Jackson Hole where again, face coverage is required by Wyoming law. Most every shop and restaurant was open like normal. What wasn't normal was the lack of tourists. Sure, it was still crowded, but I've been coming here my whole life, and Jackson in July is normally as busy as Times Square. Don't get me wrong, I didn't miss the giant tour buses barreling down the intersection, but it definitely had a different vibe. Which made it great to visit new stores and support smaller restaurants that we had never tried.

In conclusion, get out and ride your bike. Sure, things are different and maybe not ideal. But these small inconveniences are no reason to not get out and ride your bike. Be considerate of the people around you when you're in a busy area and take extra precautions to make sure that you're protecting yourself. Mountain biking is too much fun to out-right skip a season so get off your butt, throw on a mask and ride your damn bike!
